Local IT support for Chestnut Ridge businesses

A quiet village that does its business on two roads.

Chestnut Ridge businesses get managed IT from VJNetworks the same way the rest of Rockland does, one team and one flat monthly fee for the network, security, cloud, and help desk. Most of the village is houses. The work happens along Chestnut Ridge Road, which is Route 45, and Red Schoolhouse Road.

The business parks sit on the east side of Red Schoolhouse, the shops, banks, and professional offices gather at the village center where the two roads meet, and Teledyne LeCroy keeps its headquarters out on Chestnut Ridge Road. Nearly everyone else is a small office, a practice, a contractor’s front room, or a firm of a dozen people, with nobody on staff whose job is the network and a to-do list with no room for one. Offices that size need managed IT services built for them, and VJNetworks has covered Rockland County since 2004.

The local reality

Houses on most of the map. Offices, labs, and warehouses on the rest.

Just under five square miles by the Census Bureau’s count, with the New Jersey line along the bottom and the Thruway running straight through.

10,505

residents at the 2020 census, in a village incorporated inside the Town of Ramapo in 1986.

4.95

square miles of land, bounded by Airmont, Spring Valley, Clarkstown, and the state line.

2

commercial corridors, Chestnut Ridge Road and Red Schoolhouse Road, carrying nearly all of it.

5โ€“60

employees, the size range we build for, which covers almost every office in the village.

The village’s own zoning code says a lot about what it expects to host. There’s a Professional Office district and a Laboratory-Office district, where the permitted list runs from office buildings and business parks to research labs, flex space, and medical and dental clinics. A Planned Industry Laboratory Office district adds manufacturing and warehousing. South of the Parkway the land turns over to bus and truck terminals, building supply, and distribution. Very different businesses. Underneath, the list is shorter than you’d think, a closet with a switch in it, a Microsoft 365 tenant, a server or two, and a backup that ought to be tested. That closet is where we start.

Why businesses switch

What Chestnut Ridge offices are switching away from.

Two setups wear thin faster than the rest. Recognize either?

1Reason one

Nobody owns the server

It was set up years ago by someone who has since moved on. It still runs. Ask who knows the admin password, which version of Windows Server it carries, or whether last night’s backup would actually restore, and the room goes quiet. Nothing is wrong yet. That’s the problem, because the first time anybody looks closely will be the morning it fails.

2Reason two

The IT person who takes a vacation

One good technician, in house or on call, who knows every quirk of the place. Then they take a week off in August, or take a new job, and everything they knew leaves with them. Nobody wrote it down because they never needed to. When someone at a managed provider goes on vacation, the rest of the team still has your documentation and still answers the phone.

VJNetworks sits in between. Big enough to manage your IT. Small enough to care.

For the office with a server in the back room

That server has a date on it, and it isn’t the day it breaks.

Plenty of small offices still run a Windows server in a closet. It holds the shared drive, maybe the accounting data, maybe the one program the whole office depends on. It works. That’s exactly why nobody thinks about it. Microsoft does, though. Extended support for Windows Server 2016 ends in January 2027, and 2019 follows in January 2029. After that date the box keeps running exactly as before. The security patches stop.

There are three honest ways out, and we’ll lay out all three. Replace the hardware and keep it local, which is one purchase plus a refresh every few years. Move the server into Azure as a virtual machine, which costs more per seat each month but builds disaster recovery into the setup instead of bolting it on. Or retire it, if what it holds belongs in Microsoft 365 and SharePoint anyway. Which one fits depends on what that server actually does all day. We find out first.

Sometimes the answer is to stay local. If the way your office works today genuinely works, moving it to the cloud isn’t automatically an upgrade, and we won’t sell it to you as one.

Worth knowing before you ask. Our cloud work is Microsoft, full stop, Microsoft 365 and Azure, and our VP Mike Stoveken is Azure certified and runs these moves himself. A migration gets scoped and quoted as its own project, separate from the monthly agreement that supports everything once it lands. The full picture, including how we inventory a server before anything moves, is on our Microsoft 365 and Azure migration page.

One team, both corridors

A suite in a business park or a storefront at the village center, same people answer.

We run your cybersecurity, your Microsoft 365, the help desk, the network, and the hardware planning under one flat rate, instead of three vendors you reconcile at year end. Your setup gets mapped and written down before the first invoice goes out, including what every server runs and when Microsoft stops patching it. That date lands in a plan, not a surprise, which is what vCIO strategy and roadmapping is for. A four-person office and a forty-person operation don’t need the same things from us. Same team either way.

What we provide

Managed IT services we provide in Chestnut Ridge.

Managed IT Services

Network, endpoints, licensing, and help desk on one predictable monthly invoice instead of a folder of vendor bills.

Azure & Server Migration

The aging server moved into Azure or retired into Microsoft 365, on a schedule you pick instead of one a failing drive picks.

Cloud Services & Microsoft 365

Set up properly on Microsoft 365, with SharePoint doing the work most offices hand to OneDrive by accident.

Cybersecurity

Multi-factor, endpoint protection, email filtering, and the awareness training that catches the fake invoice before accounts payable pays it.

Backup & Business Continuity

Backups that get restored on a schedule, not just scheduled, plus a written plan for working through a week without the office.

Healthcare IT

For medical and dental offices, the safeguards HIPAA expects, built and maintained, with the business associate agreement signed up front.

Professional Services IT

Consultants, agencies, and firms billing by the hour, who can’t afford an afternoon lost to a connection that keeps dropping.

Multi-Location Support

A second site in Nanuet or over the line in Montvale sits under the same team and the same agreement. No handoff.

All under one roof.

One monthly cost, one team, one call when something needs attention.

Our service area

From the Thruway down to the state line, and across it.

Chestnut Ridge sits in the Town of Ramapo, with Airmont to the west, Spring Valley to the north, Clarkstown and Nanuet to the east, and Montvale across the New Jersey line to the south. The Thruway cuts through the village, and exit 14A hands you onto the Garden State Parkway connector, whose only exit, at Schoolhouse Road, sits inside the village. Route 45 doesn’t stop at the border either. It keeps going into Bergen as Chestnut Ridge Road. We cover all of it, across the 10977 and 10952 zips, on the same terms whether you’re in a business park on Red Schoolhouse or a storefront at the village center.

Our office is in Garnerville, and the same team covers Bergen County and Westchester County too. The full list of towns we support is longer than you’d guess.

Common questions

From Chestnut Ridge business owners.

Who provides managed IT services in Chestnut Ridge, NY?

VJNetworks provides managed IT services for small businesses across Chestnut Ridge, NY, from the business parks on Red Schoolhouse Road to the offices and shops along Route 45. We’ve supported Rockland businesses since 2004 and keep 97% of our clients. One flat monthly fee covers the network, cybersecurity, cloud, backups, and help desk as one system.

What does managed IT cost for a small office in Chestnut Ridge?

$995 a month is where plans start. A ten to fifteen person office usually lands somewhere between $1,000 and $2,800 once monitoring, security, backups, and the help desk are rolled together. A server on site, a second location, or regulated data pushes you up that range. A server migration, if you need one, is quoted separately as a project rather than folded into the monthly.

Our server runs Windows Server 2016. What actually changes in January 2027?

Microsoft stops shipping security updates for it. The server itself won’t notice. It keeps sharing files and running your programs exactly as it did the day before, which is precisely why the date gets ignored. What changes is that every vulnerability discovered after that point stays unpatched on that machine. Plan the replacement or the move before the deadline, and you pick the week.

Is moving our server to Azure cheaper than buying a new one?

Usually not, month for month, and anyone who promises otherwise hasn’t seen your server yet. Running in Azure tends to cost more per seat than a box in the closet. What you get for it is disaster recovery built into the setup and no hardware refresh to fund every few years. For some offices that trade is obviously worth it. For others a new local server is the smarter buy, and we’ll say so.

You’re up in Garnerville. How fast can you help an office down here?

Within 15 minutes during business hours, which is the standard we commit to and usually beat. Often quicker. Most issues get fixed remotely on a screen share, faster than any drive. When a visit is the right call, it’s a trip across the county, not a scheduled half-day, and whoever shows up already has your documentation.

We have a second office over the line in Montvale. One agreement or two?

One, as long as it’s one company. A single business with two locations is simpler to support than two separate businesses sharing an owner, and it shouldn’t be billed like the second. The same team covers Bergen and Rockland, so the state line changes the drive and nothing else.

What happens if we sign and it isn’t a fit?

You walk away inside 90 days with no penalty. That’s the satisfaction guarantee on every new agreement. Everything we documented goes with you, the network map, the server details, the vendor list, so whoever you hire next starts from a written record rather than a scavenger hunt.

The server in the back room, the switch in the closet, the Microsoft 365 licenses, the backups, the help desk. VJNetworks owns all of it end to end, including the renewals and end-of-support dates that slip by in offices where nobody is tracking them. You have a business to run on Route 45. We’ll take the rest.
