The story

Jim Mutone didn’t set out to start an IT company.

22
years, cash-flow positive every one
97%
client retention, 20+ years

He was an electrical engineer who got into computers in the 1990s, back when most businesses were still figuring out what to do with them. He was good at it. Really good. He spent years fixing problems, building networks, learning on the job. In 2004, he partnered up and started VJNetworks out of Congers, NY.

That was 22 years ago. The company has been cash-flow positive every single year since.

If you ask Jim what made the difference, he won’t talk about technology. He’ll talk about his father. Jim’s dad ran a business that dealt with large customers, and what set him apart was simple: he was always available, and he had integrity. No shortcuts. No excuses. That’s the standard Jim brought to VJNetworks, and it’s the standard the company still runs on today.

That philosophy shows up in the numbers. VJNetworks has maintained a 97%+ client retention rate for over 20 years. People don’t stay that long with a company that doesn’t deliver.

Meet the team

The people who actually know your name.

James Mutone

Founder & President

Jim started in IT when computers were still relatively new in most offices. He learned by doing — not from a textbook, but from showing up, solving problems, and earning trust one client at a time. Over two decades later, he still runs VJNetworks the way his father ran his business: be available, be honest, and treat every client’s business like it’s your own.

These days, Jim focuses on the business side — making sure clients are financially and operationally protected, keeping the company disciplined, and maintaining the relationships that have kept VJNetworks going for 22 years.

When he’s not working, Jim plays guitar, hosts social gatherings, and is a lifelong dog lover. The VJNetworks office in Garnerville is famously pet-friendly — dogs and cats are part of the team.

Mike Stoveken

Vice President · Azure Certified

Mike got hired at VJNetworks while he was still in school getting his associate’s degree in cybersecurity. That was over 20 years ago. He never left.

In that time, Mike has handled everything — Azure migrations, virtual server environments, networking equipment, switches, VPNs, security. He’s not the kind of vice president who delegates and reviews. He’s hands-on, every day, on the systems that keep clients running.

Before going all-in at VJNetworks, Mike took field assignments in California and Los Angeles. He worked in data centers, went on-site to customers, and worked with large enterprise environments — including major airports, healthcare systems, and large ISPs.

That enterprise experience matters because it means VJNetworks can handle complexity that most small-business MSPs can’t. Mike brings the technical depth of someone who’s worked in environments with thousands of users, but applies it to businesses with 5 or 50. The result is enterprise-grade infrastructure managed by someone who actually knows your name.

What we believe

The principles we actually run on.

01

Integrity isn’t optional.

We have access to a lot of our clients’ data. Jim’s father taught him that the businesses that last are the ones that do what they say they’re going to do — especially when nobody’s watching. That’s the foundation. Everything else follows from it.

02

Customer service comes before everything.

Not as a marketing line — as an operating principle. When a client calls, they get a person who knows their systems, within 15 minutes. That’s not a target we hit sometimes. It’s the commitment we make every time.

03

Cheap IT is the most expensive mistake.

A business tries to save money with one person or the lowest bid — then loses data, or systems go down during their busiest week, or the IT person quits and nobody knows how anything works. Recovering from that always costs more than doing it right the first time.

04

We want to be the one nobody leaves.

We’re not trying to be the biggest MSP. Our retention rate isn’t an accident — it’s a business model. We invest in relationships and learn your systems, your history, your people. When you call us next year, we’ll remember what we fixed last year.
