Jim Mutone is the Founder and President of VJNetworks, the Rockland County managed IT company he founded in 2004 and has run cash-flow positive ever since, built on technical expertise, absolute integrity, and being there when it matters.
Talk to Jim’s Team →He didn’t set out to start an IT company.
Jim is an electrical engineer by training. He got into business IT in the 1990s, back when most offices were still figuring out what to do with them. He was good at it. Really good. He fixed problems, built networks, and learned on the job. IT started as a side business in 1998, one financial advisory client at a time. By 2004 the client list had outgrown the side hustle, so he partnered up and incorporated VJNetworks out of Congers, NY.
Ask Jim what made the company last and he won’t talk about technology. He’ll talk about his father, who ran a business that kept very large customers happy with two habits. Always be available. Never cut a corner on trust. Jim turned those habits into VJNetworks’ operating system. In the early years that meant a police officer could call him at midnight about a virus and Jim would go fix it, or a server would die at closing time and he’d work through the night so the business opened running.
It shows up in the numbers now. The company he built has kept a 97% client retention rate for over two decades. People don’t leave.
These days Jim runs the business side of VJNetworks’ managed IT services. He keeps clients financially and operationally protected, keeps the company disciplined, and maintains the relationships that have kept some clients on the roster for the better part of two decades. The engineering team handles the day-to-day. That split is the point. He’d tell you so himself.
Four things worth knowing about Jim.
his Rubik’s Cube time at age 11, self-taught in 1980 with no book and no internet.
when he started programming, first on the VIC-20, then the Commodore 64 and a friend’s Apple II.
Electrical Engineering degree, University of Buffalo. IT won him over anyway.
incorporated VJNetworks in Congers, NY. Still running it 22 years later.
Three commitments, every client, since day one.
When Jim met a new customer in 2004, he sold three things. The pitch hasn’t changed.
Expertise in IT
Real technical solutions, delivered by people who’ve done the work in the trenches.
Absolute integrity
An IT company holds every password you have. Jim’s rule from day one: never touch client data unless fixing the problem requires it.
Being there
Midnight calls answered. Servers rebuilt overnight so the business opens running. That standard built the company.
